Vintage Antonia Martinez Albarez Last Supper Ocumicho Michoacan Mexico Pottery
Early polychrome figure entitled "Last Supper" marked with the unique stamp of Antonia Martinez Albarez, among the most famous artists working in Michoacan in the 1960's and 1970's.
This is a rather large piece that measures about 10 1/4 iches by 6 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches tall. It weighs well over 6 pounds.
During my research, I found an interesting doctoral thesis from the University of Madrid (in Spanish) covering Mexican folk art pottery focusing on the Ocumicho area with a photo of the artist at work (

) . The photo is on page 131. Found a couple of other references to the artist and her work on pages 371 & 387. Am sure there are more.
