Vintage 3D Tru-Vue True View Sally Rand Nude Bubble Dance Film #1312 View-Master____________________________________________________________
I have been collecting 3D media for the last 30 years and finally decided it's time to part ways with some of my favorite
things. This is one of the hardest to find and most desirable Tru Vue films ever made. (Please see my other listings for
the others)
A Century of Progress International Exposition was the name of a World's Fair held in Chicago from 1933 to 1934 to celebrate the city's centennial. The theme of the fair was technological innovation. The fair's motto was "Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Conforms". Right in the middle of the depression this was the first fair of it's kind in many years to actually turn a profit. Sally Rand was the reason why....
Sally Rand was one of the most famous burlesque dancers ever... She single handedly made the 1933 Worlds Fair in Chicago turn a profit in the middle of the depression and had an estimated 22 million viewers walk through her Nude Ranch and see her innovative Fan dance and Bubble dance shows.
Sally debuted her fan dance at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. She also set up her Nude Dude Ranch and pulled a "Lady Godiva" stunt which resulted in her arrested on lewd charges. She was later released. All the brouhaha from the World's Fair increased her notoriety and she later created her "bubble dance." This consisted of the petite 5'4" Sally doing a taunting dance with a huge five foot specially constructed translucent bubble to the delight of male audiences. Because of her spectacular showmanship, she garnished a career that lasted 30 years! This rare Tru-Vue film captured the frenzy she created in Tru Vue three dimensional photography. Something way to bold for rival View-Master to cover.
Condition:
The film
is in excellent condition!
I have personally gone through it with white gloves to inspect every frame and every film
cog of the 14 paired stereo images. All photo
s
are in excellent condition
and no sprockets are are torn.
The
original
red and silver box
has all flaps attached and is also in excellent
condition. The box does have some shelf wear which is to be considered from a small box that has been around for
almost 80+ years
.
I have tried my best to photograph every aspect of the box and film. Please check them out and if you
have any questions, please email!
About Tru-Vue from the UK Viewmaster website:
TRU-VUE Inc., Rock Island, Illinois USA manufactured the viewers and over 400 different 3D film reels. The company was founded in 1931 and after the 1933 "Century of Progress Exposition" in Chicago grew and flourished through the 1930's and 40's. The original viewers used 35mm filmstrips, generally containing 14 stereo views, which were pulled through the viewer using a lever (visible at the bottom of the left-hand photograph below). In 1949 Tru-Vue sold over a million reels of film!. The quality of the 3D presented is generally very good, although the films need to be handled carefully. Film-strips and viewers were made between 1933 and 1952. Ultimately the Tru-Vue company was acquired by Sawyers View-Master in 1952, who wanted the rights to Disney licences held by the company.
