Vintage 1930’s Howard Hughes Airplane Bakelite Trophy By Dodge Trophies. Trophy measures just under 9” tall and is made of Bakelite and brass / bronze. The base is 3-3/4” in diameter. The plane is a replica of Howard Hughes’ H-1 airplane that set a world speed record of 567 km/hr (352 mph)on September 13, 1935. The trophies are not inscribed and were made by Dodge. I bought these from a veteran who told me that the awards were not handed out at a California aviation show because the show was cancelled due to Hughes being unavailable. I could not substantiate the air show story.
