    The Republic RC-3 Seabee came out of an effort to develop an amphibious aircraft that took the form of the Spencer S-12 Air Car Amphibian, taking it first flight as the air car in 1941, fabric covered, high wing, two bladed pusher configuration.
    The design soon joined the war effort becoming the P-47 Thunderbolt.
    After the war, the design took on a metal, egg shaped exterior similar to it present day design.
