    Description

    Rare back stamp Hand Painted Empire England Pair of 10" handled cake plates Crinoline lady and flowers with floral gilding. Used. Crazed but colors and pattern still vibrant. See photos for condition and imperfections on plate backs. No chips or cracks on surface of plates. Really astonishing condition considering that the Red and Gold shield back stamp indicates they were manufactured by Empire possibly around 1930. Marks brushed on to plate back would have been made by the person who hand painted the flowers and the lady in bonnet. There is no pattern name and records of the period are not available.  I am grateful to Steve Birks who helped me identify this back stamp and, for the great information on his marvelous website 'A-Z of Stoke on Trent Potters, Empire Porcelain Company' - a valuable resource for researching The Potteries.
