$ 68.63

Availability: 100 in stock

Description

Available is an original WWII United States Navy Mark 2 or MK.2 fighting knife with its original plastic scabbard.
The knife measures approximately 12 ¼ inches in length from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle/pommel.
The blade itself measures 7 1/8 inches long by 1 ¼ inches wide.
The blade itself is not marked.
However, the guard is marked "KA-/BAR" on two lines on one side of the blade and "USN/MK2" on two lines on the other side of the blade.
The knife appears to have a stacked leather washer handle with a blued blade.
The plastic scabbard comes complete with its strap and snap.
It is marked, "U.S.N./MK.2" on one side and "NORD - 8114/B.M. Co. 1/3 VP**" on three lines on the other.
NORD stands for the Navy Ordnance Department, B.M. Co. stands for the Beckwith Manufacturing Co., and VP stands for Victory Plastics.
The blade has been lightly (factory) sharpened long ago.
The guard and pommel are tight.
The blade just shows some light storage age.
As with the blade, the leather handle only shows some light age.
However, the guard has some oxidation that might able to be cleaned up.
The plastic scabbard is also in nice shape, but has a 1 inch hairline crack that has stablished about 1 inch above the tip.
In addition, the metal rivets, ends of the snaps, and metal component of the scabbard also shows signs of oxidation.
Please be sure to check out the large pictures I have posted and judge condition for yourself.
This is a example of a WWII USN Mark 2 fighting knife that is detailed in M.H. Coles Book, "Best of U.S. Military Knives, Bayonets & Machetes" on page 118.
It would make a nice addition to any collection.
