Leitz Ortholux 1 Polarizing Quadruple Nosepiece. This item is truly rare. It allows you to add to any Leitz Ortholux 1 a sliding polarizer foil in an objective-centering quadruple nosepiece, and use compensators as well. Unlike any other centering nosepiece I have seen, the objectives point toward the microscope body in use, allowing easy access to both sample on the stage and the compensator slot. If you are not lucky enough to own the fully featured trinocular FS45 for the Ortholux 1, this is the next best option in your quest for polarized light. You will of course need to add your own substage polarizer and preferably a rotating stage. There are two buts:The first is that I could only easily center three out of four positions, with the fourth a little iffy. Further, unless your microscope is in proper alignment with respect to a rotating stage, you may not be able to align any position, and that is your liability. The second is that with ordinary binocular eyepieces, you will see slight pleochroic effects with the substage polarizer in and the analyzer of this device out. This slight effect will not photograph through the photoport of a trinocular, and in ordinary use will not be noticed. The item has had a recent CLA in the past three years, and the optics and foil are in excellent condition, the Leitz polarizing foils being among the finest, particularly with regard to color cast.
