Description
H. N. White King Liberty trumpet, manufactured between 1950 and 1951, with original case, M18 mouthpiece, and paperwork. There is also a cleaning rod and lyre, but I do not know if these are original H N White parts. This Liberty has a .448" bore, balanced wrap, beveled bell rim, adjustable 3rd slide ring, and quick change to "A" via a two-piece main slide. This trumpet has been well cared for and relatively lightly played. It is not a "closet queen" but has been played and loved by multiple generations of the family. The gold lacquer is crazed and worn away in the usual spots where held and at sliding points but in very good condition for an American instrument of this vintage.
I have not been able to find even a small dent.
All parts are original, present, and in excellent condition. Slides are all free, including the quick change to "A" (with stop screw) and 3rd dump slide which are often frozen in place. I have replaced the water key corks and cleaned the instrument thoroughly. Besides the original King mouthpiece, it includes the reply postcard and user manual. I have put this instrument through its paces and it is an excellent player. There are no leaks and the valve action is amazing. The pistons are in fantastic shape, with gleaming nickel plate. The original case is also above average, in sturdy condition with no odors.
If you have not dealt with vintage trumpets before, please note that King mouthpiece receivers before the 1960s were not standard, similar to those from Conn. Most modern mouthpieces will fit but "rock" slightly. This can be mitigated by affixing a piece of scotch tape to the end of the mouthpiece shank, but the best long-term option is to have a mouthpiece modified or a sleeve fitted to the trumpet receiver.
All my trumpets are cleaned, polished, lubricated, and have failed or worn out parts replaced before offering them to my customers. I am a professional player, and wouldn't sell a trumpet I wouldn't want to play.ย Many have visual flaws, but all are in good playing order. If you have any questions about the instruments I sell, please don't hesitate to ask.
