Started in 1918, the plant was brewing 75,000 barrels of beer a year, but Prohibition brought brewing operations to a halt. To stay in operation, the brewery produced K&S root beer, Emral, Arrow Cereal beverage, soda pop, and distilled water. After repeal of Prohibition, the company began producing beer again, and expanded the facility. In 1950 a 0,000 fire destroyed malt, grain, and packaging in the second and third floor storage areas.
Adolph Kamm died in 1930 and his daughter Laura died in 1936. She had been secretary of the company for 45 years, making her one of the highest ranking women ever in local business. Adolph's sons Rudolph, Albin, and Clarence ran the brewery until it closed in 1951.
