The Jordan River in Utah is about 50 miles long, flowing northward from Utah Lake (Utah County) through the Salt Lake Valley (Salt Lake County) and empties into the Great Salt Lake. The watershed of the river provides water for a primarily agrarian region.
‘Dry farming’ refers to farming on non-irrigated land with minimal rainfall that relies on moisture-conserving and drought-resistant crops. Dry farming may be practiced in areas that have significant annual rainfall during a wet season, often in the winter. Crops are cultivated during the subsequent dry season, using practices that make use of the stored moisture in the soil.
The town of Riverton, Utah (Salt Lake County) is located on the Jordan River about 15 miles north of Utah Lake, at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains.
