IDENTIFIED 34th. PURSUIT SQUADRON PHILLIPPINE MADE PILOT’S KNIFE, 1941/42This local made in the Philippine air corps pilot’s knife was used by
Lt. Lloyd Stinson who flew in the 34th Pursuit Squadron from
Del Carmen Field in December 1941 to March 1942 in the Philippines They had 18
Seversky P-35A in combat over the Philippine in, 1941 & 1942. This knife is 8 5/8” long with a 4 ½” blade, small iron guard, dark brown leather grip made of layered together leather pieces & an iron pommel cap that has a square nut holding the guard, grip & pommel cap onto the tang at the back. The brown leather scabbard is 8 7/8” long, (a little short but it fits) & is sewn together with 5 iron rivets & has a leather arm to hold the grip in place It is in good & well used condition with the blade being dully shiny, the leather grip shows some ware but is intact without any gouges or rot The scabbard is in good & well used condition & shows some ware but is intact without any gouges or rot but has a small rip on the top of the front panel It was bought directly from the Stinson family & comes with a certificate of authenticity.
