    Description

F.E. Olds 1939 Super Trumpet Ser. #6838. Condition is "Used".
Condition is very impressive given the age of the instrument and its an amazing player. There were a few small dents and dings, most notably on the bell bow. These were professionally repaired by Dana Hofer who is a very talented and well trained tech in Chicago. Valves have some wear to the nickel plating. Serial numbers match the horn. Compression is good, especially for the age. I don’t think the valves are leaking any significant amount of air. It has the original 3rd slide stop rod, which is very rare. All the other parts look original. The valves might have been re-plated, and the horn has definitely been re-lacquered. That was long ago and the lacquer has aged to a beautiful honey gold color. There is a small amount of corrosion on the tuning slide, but nothing I would worry about.
Now, most importantly, is playability. This horn reminds me why I love Olds so much. This horn is a beautiful beast. The sound is vibrant and projecting, and is a real joy to play. You can feel the horn resonate in your hand, and the sound is close to my ideal trumpet sound. It’s full of life and color and isn’t too “bright”. I image it would sound great on tape. Valves are fast. I put some hetman #2 on them and they feel great. Slides are smooth and are in great shape.
This was recently professionally cleaned by Dana Hofer in Chicago and is ready to play. It’s an amazing example of a pre-war super. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Comes with an Olds 7c mouthpiece. It does not come with a case.
