This
extraordinary piece
was made by master potter
José Luis Cortéz Hernández
of Tolana,  Mexico.
It is a wonderful example of
Mexican Folk art and Ceramic traditions
from this area of Mexico.  This vase was
all handmade and Painted and then given a lovely hand burnished satin finish.
I purchased this piece directly from Luis on my most recent trip to Mexico.
It measures 10 1/2 inches tall by 5 3/4 inches square.
"Luis was one of 5 of Salvador Vazquez' original apprentices; trained in the classic Barro Bruñido technique that is famous in Tonalá.  Luis' work often features elements of dimension that seem to bring his pieces to life.  Each piece is painstakingly burnished by hand prior to the final firing.  Absolutely beautiful work.  Every collection needs one of these pieces."
