    Description

*NOTE TO EBAY - THESE BOXES ARE EMPTY AND DO NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED AMMUNITION COMPONENTS*
Up for your consideration is a set of two empty reproduction CALIBER .30 M2 ARMOR PIERCING 20 round ammunition cartons with an EAU CLAIRE ORDNANCE PLANT label.
The .30-06 cartridge, first developed in 1906, was the official U.S. rifle and light machine gun cartridge in both World Wars and Korea, with combat use finally ending in the 1960s. The huge quantities of ammunition required for World War 2 dramatically reflected the impact on warfare of rapid-fire weapons like the machine gun and semi-automatic rifle. Total small arms ammunition production from 1940-1945 exceeded 41.7 billion rounds, and of that total the Caliber .30 round accounted for 25 billion rounds in all loadings. During the 1930s Frankford was the only plant in the U.S. producing military small arms ammunition. Beginning in 1939, small orders were placed with Remington Arms and Western Cartridge for military cartridges, paving the way for future expansion. The Eau Claire Ordnance Plant was part of the 4th Wave of plant expansion that occurred during WWII. It was run by the U.S. Rubber Company and was set up to produce Cal. .30 Ball, Armor Piercing and Incendiary ammunition. Production started on August 25, 1942, and from that date until September 7, 1942, the headstamp "EC" was used. After that date, the headstamp was changed to "EW" so as to avoid confusion with ammunition produced at the Evansville Ordnance Plant. d. Production ended at Eau Claire in December 1943 after producing over 600 million rounds of Cal. .30 ammunition.
Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 2 unassembled cartons with dividers and labels. The Eau Claire Ordnance Plant label is missing the unique WW2 yellow and blue stripes, which identified the contents as Armor Piercing ammunition, and was uncommon to see during 1943. The cartons, dividers, and labels will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions, and the shipping is free within the U.S. I had a lot of these made, so if you want multiple sets, just change the auction quantity before you click the "Buy It Now" button.
