This is a lovely custom built Bach Stradivarius C trumpet. The bore of the horn is ML at .460". The bell is 4 3/4". The bell engraving reads: “Stradivarius/ Model 37/ Vincent Bach/ ELKHART, IND/ U.S.A.” This horn was built using a slightly modified Bach 37 bell, with a heavily modified Olds Ambassador valve cluster and a Bach Stradivarius 25H leadpipe. An Olds valve cluster was chosen for two main reasons; first, for the weight--these clusters are quite robustly built, giving the horn more focus and power. Secondly, these valves are some of the most reliable ever built, lasting for many thousands of playing hours without needing adjustment.
This horn has been built with a 37 bell to give the horn a quick response and light feel. This horn plays very well. The valves move well with very good compression, have little wear and feel very mechanically sound, with no wiggle from side to side. The slides all move well, of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few small dings and pings as well as some light pitting and scratching on the valve cluster. The bell flare is also slightly wavy from past work. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now--if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This trumpet comes with a mouthpiece and a somewhat worn case.
Of course you will probably want to try the horn out for a trial period and test it to see if it is a good fit for you; once you purchase the horn you have two weeks (14 days) after it arrives at your home to test the horn and decide if it works for you. If you would like to return it you may do so for a full refund, you just have to cover the shipping costs.
