Calicchio trumpets are well respected as some of the best playing horns ever available. Add this one does not disappoint - an even rarer horn, this is one of the few special 75th anniversary offerings. From what I have gathered these were some of the last horns built by the Calicchio family in the early 2000s before the company was purchased and moved out of Los Angeles.
This is the 1S/7 model. The 1S bell is considered the benchmark and one of the most popular models found in recording studios and in commercial and jazz settings. The 7 leadpipe was Dominic’s all rounder and the most popular.
The horn is in very good shape for being nearly 20 years old. Gold plated. The gold plating is at nearly 95% with only a few small contact points starting to lighten through to the silver. The horn does appear to have silver underneath so plating is complete. The color of the gold is starting to lighten up in a few spots on the lead pipe but it’s still there. There is one super small area with what appears to be a drop of solder bleed where the third valve slide meets the valve casing. No leaking, it just looks like the gold wore off. Super small spot. No damage or dents on the horn. Valves and slides work great. Valves have been aligned.
The horn speaks! It has that Calicchio sound and that Calicchio response! Great pitch!
This is a beautiful trumpet in great condition and they are now no longer being made so this is a rare opportunity.
