Antique Pre-1896 L Lamar & Co. Eb Alto Trumpet/Cornet - Playable Condition. There appears to be very little information about this instrument, however this is what I could find:
It is either a trumpet or cornet in the key of Eb, but it is unusual in the respect that it would be an Eb alto cornet/trumpet rather than the typical Eb soprano.
It was made by L Lamar & Co./The J.G. Richards Co. in Cleveland, Ohio—this branding puts its manufacturing date before a name change of the company in 1896.
It is plated with German silver.
The receiver accepts trumpet mouthpieces (not cornet).
This instrument was nearly 100% black with tarnish when I got it—I made any and all repairs and took it to a professional metal polisher to get most of the tarnish off. With that being said, all repairs are amateur repairs. As you can see in the pictures, some of the soldering on some of the braces is not very good, and the valve block is not soldered to the leadpipe in the center brace between the two. Also, the first valve needs a new cork spacer on the inside—right now it is resting higher than the other two, causing a very slight airflow problem. There are many dents and dings around the horn, but nothing too serious. Overall, all valves and slides all move freely, and it is in playable condition. Mouthpiece included. Case not included.
