Description

This interesting porringer with cast initials "IC" on the back of its coronet ear comes from the collection of Dr. Ian Robinson. My father described it as a "Boston" porringer, and noted the triangular bracket "with projection". An American Pewter Collection by Melvyn and Bette Wolf shows two other examples of this porringer, both bearing the identical IC mark, which Wolf identifies as that of a Boston maker, c. 1800 (see #533 and #534 on page 534).
With a bowl diameter of about 5 inches, this piece has been repaired where the ear joins the body. Other than that, it is in reasonably good condition with nice color.
