The Scythians (other-Greek: σκύθης, ΣκύθΑι, self — name: Skolotoi) were an ancient nomadic Iranian — speaking people who existed in the VIII century BC-IV century AD. The Scythians had no written language, more than two hundred words are known from their Scythian language, as well as personal names, toponyms and glosses in ancient and cuneiform sources.
Part of the Scythians lived in the steppe zone of the Northern Black Sea region from the Danube to the Don, called Scythia in ancient Greek sources. Many tribes and peoples were both in alliance with the Scythians and hostile to them.
